ARTICLE 13
ASSIGNMENT OF ILL OR INJURED EMPLOYEES
13.1
A.
Light duty is that duty provided any employee sho has physical limitations,
which are documented by a qualified and treating physician, resulting from
an off - the - job injury or illness.
Limited duty is that duty provided any employee who has physical
limitations identified by qualified and treating physician resulting from
an on - the job injury or illness.
B. It is agreed that requests for light
duty assignments will be made through the immediate supervisor.
B1. Tempory light duty that does not
exceed two (2) days shall not require a doctor's statement nor the joint
meeting referred to in Section 13.1C. The employee's request may
be acted upon by his / her immediate supervisor.
C. Prior to rendering a decision on light
or limited duty assignments, a joint meeting will be held between the tour
Manager Distribution Operations, the tour Union Representative, and the
employee.
The Manager Distribution Operations, Senior or his / her designee,
will render the final decision for all light or limited duty assignments.
D. A doctor's statement specifying the
limitations on the duties which an employee may perform shall be the guideline
in placing an employee on light duty.
E. The employee is to be assigned to
light duty in his / her assigned unit and tour, whenever possible.
Nothing in this Section is intended to exceed the provisions of Sections
13.2 and 13.3.
F. Employees requesting changes to
existing light duty assignments which cannot be accommodated, will
be dealt with as new request, and subject to the above rules.
G. Additional needs of the light duty program
will be resolved at jont Labor / Management Committee Meetings. Any conflicts
occurring at Stations and Branches concerning light duty assignments will
be an agenda item for the committee meetings.

13.2 The identification of assignments that
are to be considered light duty within any installation under the jurisdiction
of the Salt Lake City Post Office where Mail Handlers work, will be approved
on an individual basis, provided the work is useful and needed, and the
duties do not exceed the employee's limitations or restrictions.
Some areas of light duty assignments include:
1) Rewrap
2) Cutting, facing, hand - cancelling, and traying
mail (Opening Units).
3) Repair of damaged letters (patch - up).
4) MTE-Sack examination, separating of empty
sacks, paletizing of trays, sleeves, etc...
5) Other assignments within the Mail Handler craft
as identified and agreed upon between the Union and Management.

13.3
A. The number of light duty assignments
to be reserved for temporary or permanent light duty is ten (10).
The identification of such assignments are as follows:
2 assignments on Operation 010.
1 assignment on Operation 110.
1 assignment on Tour 3/GMF as a combination of Mail Handler assignments.
1 assignment on Tour 3/ASF as a combination of Mail Handler assignments.
2 assignments on Tour 2/ASF as a combination of Mail Handler assignments.
1 assignment Tour 1/GMF as a combination of Mail Handler assignments.
1 assignment on each Tour as repairing damaged letters.
B. Should the above number of assignments
all be filled at any one time, consideration may be given to accommodating
additional requests.
